Description
About Hololabs
Hololabs is a creative technology studio and solutions partner, bringing interactive, immersive experiences to life with a focus on user engagement and play. Rooted in video game development, we’ve evolved to lead in immersive entertainment, location-based experiences, and emerging media like virtual and augmented reality. Collaboration is central to our approach; we team up with visionary partners to solve challenges, explore new ideas, and create experiences that resonate with audiences worldwide.
In 2026, we will continue our work with clients in theme parks, virtual and augmented reality and immersive art while developing our own games and experiences.
The role
We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to own and evolve the infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and technical systems that support games and attractions development at Hololabs. This role focuses on building reliable, scalable platforms that enable our technical, software and QA teams to develop, test, and deploy efficiently.
Many of our projects combine game engine technology with real-world systems and hardware, and often ship as large-scale location-based installations. As a result, our development environments must replicate complex real-world networks and operational systems before deployment to site. This role helps design and maintain the infrastructure and tooling that allow teams to simulate and validate these environments during development.
As a growing studio based in Victoria, BC, you will also play an important role in shaping how we structure infrastructure, internal systems, and IT practices as the studio scales.
Hours per week: 40
Role type: Full-time permanent employee
Place of work: hybrid
Reporting to: VP of Technology
Who you are
You are a collaborative and trusted technical partner who enjoys building systems that help teams work effectively. You take a systems-level view of development infrastructure, understanding how networking, build pipelines, runtime environments, and deployment targets interact. You also enjoy being hands-on, building tools, scripting solutions, and automating workflows that improve how teams develop and ship software.
You bring strong DevOps and infrastructure experience from building big media projects and take ownership of reliable, scalable platforms that support development, testing, and deployment. In a growing studio environment, you take a pragmatic approach - balancing security, performance, and cost while helping our systems evolve as we scale.
What you’ll do
Infrastructure & DevOps
- Own and maintain on-premise and cloud infrastructure/services (AWS)
- Design and manage CI/CD pipelines and build systems for large-scale media projects (often built using Unity or Unreal game engines)
- Maintain and monitor servers and network infrastructure
- Improve development, testing, and deployment workflows
- Ensure infrastructure is secure, reliable, and scalable
- Support project deployments and operational environments
Attraction Development Environments
- Design and maintain staging environments that mirror real-world attraction deployments
- Configure and simulate complex network topologies used in attractions, including segmented and multi-layer networks
- Collaborate closely with backend engineers to maintain tools that support build distribution, smoke testing, and automated validation of project builds
- Collaborate closely with QA engineers to ensure attraction software can be reliably tested and validated before deployment to physical installations
Platform & Systems Management
- Maintain core development systems and technical tooling
- Manage access controls, authentication systems, and password management
- Monitor infrastructure health and system performance
Infrastructure Strategy
- Recommend and implement improvements to infrastructure, tooling, and workflows
- Help define scalable infrastructure practices as the studio grows
- Track infrastructure usage and optimize cloud costs
Internal Systems
- Oversee and manage the studio’s internal IT stack, including cloud services, email, and collaboration tools
- Maintain access controls and system provisioning for team members
- Manage IT-related vendors, purchase requests, and infrastructure budgets
- Track and optimize cloud and infrastructure costs
What you bring
- 7+ years in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or platform operations supporting software development teams
- Strong systems thinking with the ability to understand how networking, infrastructure, build pipelines, and runtime environments interact.
- Experience supporting large-scale build pipelines (Unity, Unreal, or similar complex build systems)
- Strong cloud infrastructure expertise (AWS preferred)
- Deep networking knowledge across platforms, including VLAN configuration, packet analysis (e.g., Wireshark), and troubleshooting routing and interface issues
- Hands-on experience with containerization and virtualization technologies such as Docker and VMware, along with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform
- Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and automated deployment workflows
- Strong command-line scripting skills across platforms (Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
- Experience building and maintaining scalable infrastructure automation and development pipelines
- Solid understanding of security best practices, access control, and system monitoring/observability
- Experience managing infrastructure vendors, tools, and cloud budgets, including cost tracking and optimization
- Ability to evaluate, integrate, and support evolving technology stacks across multiple projects
- Collaborative mindset, working closely with engineering and QA teams to support efficient development workflows
Nice to haves
- Experience supporting VR application development
- Experience with MDM (Mobile Device Management) or enterprise VR headset management
- Experience supporting live services, multiplayer infrastructure, or real-time applications
- Experience working with industrial control systems, embedded devices, or operational technology (OT) environments
What we offer
- Weekly team lunch and regular socials
- Paid time off during annual holiday closure
- Collaborative, flexible and creative work environment
- Hybrid work with core hours of 10am to 4pm
- Extended health and dental (shared cost with Hololabs)
